I was a fan of the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) on television so when Eric Ladd arranged a winter lunch
with Andy and Jacey Watson, promoters of the Bozeman Classic, I was an easy mark.
Continental was a chute sponsor and a VIP Tent sponsor the first year (2007) as well as co-sponsors of
the Bust-a-Mutton event. The next year, we became title sponsor of the event.
Eric and I split the Bust-A-Mutton event each year. This requires children under the age of 6, weighing
no more than 60 lbs. to hang on to a sheep as long as possible. Who doesn’t get a laugh out of
watching kids hanging onto sheep? Check out some of the photos taken at last year’s event. Some of
these little guys and girls take it pretty seriously.
It may seem like an odd event for us to be associated with, but it is a great community event for the Bozeman area and an entertaining way to give back. The stands are packed to capacity every year; the PBR’s premier clown, Flint Rasmussen, provides the humor and it’s a great family outing.
A western bull-riding event is perfect Americana. As the Montana summer sun sets over the grandstands, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting.
